After spending several weeks researching cavies, we decided it would be a good first pet for our daughter. We set up a C & C cage and got her a cavy on Friday. Since arriving home, the cavy has not left the "igloo" home at all and does not appear to be eating or drinking. Any suggestions on how to get some food and water into the cavy, and how to help it adjust to its new surroundings would be greatly appreciated. My daughter, who is 10, is becoming increasingly anxious and worried about the fact that cavy will not come out of the igloo and explore the cage.

Are there any poops in the cage? If the piggy is pooping then it's probably eating when you aren't looking. It can take a few weeks for piggies to get brave enough to come out when people are around. After all, you look giant and tall to them and you make new smells and new sounds. So by spending time every day sitting beside the cage and talking to your piggy you can help it get used to you.

Guinea pigs are nauturally nervis and when you first bring them home they hide and won't come out when people are around. They aren't sure on what's going to happen so, they are not likely to just be outgoing and friendly. Yeah, like orlaith said if there's poop then there properly eating, but if you don't see poop them you might have a problem. Well, hope this helps. -Thank You-
