I don't know what I am doing wrong, Freya seems better all her fur is back and she seems happy, but now Chi has a bald patch.. she has never had an issue before now.
I have treated them both for mites with stuff from the vets again just on the off chance that its that but to be honest my vet doesn't seem to have a clue and I can't find any exotic vets where I live, I am still looking though.
It looks awful and it just came up over night, one day fine, next day bald patch in front of her ear and scabs and redness, it looks really sore and she is not happy.
I use megazorb bedding I clean them out lots I use pet safe disinfectant that is affective against fungus and viruses..... what can I do... she looks so unhappy.

I had to take them to the emergency vet today this morning I got up and she has scratched all the skin off the area, its the size of a 10p peace and its all bleeding and oozing and raw. She has steroid cream to stop the itching so I have had to separate them so Freya doesn't lick the cream.... its so awful Chi is in so much pain. She is still eating and drinking though and I have split the cage in half with a grid so they can still see each other. I know this is going to sound silly but has anyone had any luck constructing a scratch mit sort of thing. I know she wouldn't like it but she is ripping chunks out of her face with her back claws. I have trimmed them but it hasn't helped. Any advice then do say... I am so worried about her.

Oh I'm really sorry to hear about your piggy. I don't have much experience with skin problems so I can't really help you, but I just wanted to wish you luck.
By any chance, are you near a university that does a veterinary course? If so, you could ring them and see if there's a chance they'd take you, or perhaps they have an exotics department, or at the least could point you in the direction of an exotics vet.

its scabbed over today, I had them up in my room all night so I could stop her scratching, I made a tiny sock for her foot to stop her doing so much damage but it just slipped off but at least it does seem to look a little better today. I think it must have been mites, I don't know where they keep getting them from does anyone know if mites can live in wood? because if so perhaps I should throw away their houses.

I'm so sorry you're having such a torid time. I would contact Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas: www.gorgeousguineas.com/contact.htmlTheir products are fantastic in my experience for sorting skin problems and Chrissie will give out personal advice, she's really great. Their website you'll see has loads of info that you can search through but i'd still phone or email her and she'll recommend something to get rid of it for good. She's also bound to know about whether mites etc can survive in wood. I am no expert but i do know that any time you give a treatment you need to change all their bedding and disinfect their cages etc to pick up anthing that came off them before it has chance to reinfect. Hope this helps, GG was a huge help to me when Percy got a fungal skin infection and he's never looked back since.

I bought a shampoo from there once, thats what cured freya of a fungal infection ^.^ ty I will e-mail her though, perhaps some specific advice would help.
The swelling has gone down a lot now, I think she should be ok. The weird thing is I clean them out all the time and I use very strong (but pet safe) disinfectant from the vets, they live inside, its not damp, I dunno........ *e-mails*
