Ive had guineas with abcesss's before but this one in perticular is too deep to catch with a needle, so the only route left is surgery.
I am waiting on a call from my vet as vedra "the guinea pig expert" refused to treat our boy.
My rodentologist believes he should only have a local anthestic.
Now anyone that has had an abcess lanced via surgery please post your experience's on this type of surgery.
Regards Kayleigh

One of my boys had an abscess that had to be cut open rather than punctured with a needle as it was so big, but it was still on the surface. He only got a local anaesthetic.
The vet made an X-shaped incision in the abscess, drained all the pus out and then washed it out with some surgical iodine (or something like that). Then he stuck a syringe (with no needle) right into the hole and flushed it out with baytril to help prevent infections. So then we gave him baytril by mouth for a week and we had to massage the wound every day to draw any pus out and after a few days the lining of the abscess came out and the hole closed up. He has been fine since.
Any idea why Vedra wouldn't treat him?

thank you for your input.
Been very busy today and finally got a call back from the vet, i'll see them tomorrow and see what they will do. They reckon the success rate is 1/100 so not too bad.
