Morning everyone.
How does ovarian cancer affect guinea pigs? What are the symtoms etc. I took Pip to the vets last night as she has a lump in her lower abdomen and with her seperating herself and hunching up in the corner I knew it was time to take her to the vets. The vet said it could be this but would need to verify with an ultrasound but he said he wouldnt do this until we were sure this is what it could be. He has said to keep a close eye on her and keep feeling the lump to see if it increases in size or if another appears on the other side.
Iv never had a piggie thats had any form of serious illness and would like to know if anyone has had this in any of their sows.
Thanks in advance
Kayleigh

I know that Luna (Nicola) who is on here lost one of her girls to ovarian cancer. Mostly, Lola had a real decrease in the quality of her coat. It really lost its lustre and she started getting some shafts of hair that were different to her normal coat. (The thread is here). Her behaviour didn't change until she was really quite sick, but our vet did mention that girls with ovarian cancer tend to drink a lot. Sorry I don't have more information I hope Pip is okay and it's just a cyst or something.

Thanks Orlaith, Im hoping its just a cyst or something not to worry about. Ill have a read through that thread, Im just not sure what to look out for as its never happened in all my years of keeping piggies. Its difficult to tell if shes drinking alot as shes living with 3 others just now. Her coat is looking a bit shabby but iv put that down to her having dominance scuffles with Toe. Ill give her a bathe and see how her coat sits after. Im trying not to worry as that can make my mind play games. Will see how things go
