One of my guinea pigs who is 2 years old (as of 4th Nov) has a weird lump about the size of a thumb nail but is quite big/round on her back nearer her rump. but not too hard. shes had it a while and i kind of forgot about it because i passed it off as a pressure bump or something but today while i was bathing her i noticed she still has it. I think its either a cyst, tumor or pressure lump as i have a suspicion that when she jumps shee may hit her back on the top of the hole that goes into the nest box. i don't think that it is a tumor because she hasnt lost condition but you never know, Any ideas on what it could be good thanks

Its difficult to tell, do you have a picture of this bump? Does it cause pain if touched/squeezed. It may be worth getting a vet to take a look just to be on the safe side, just to rule out anything like tumours/abcess's as untreated these will cause alot of harm.

I agree, I would bring her to the vet. It's probably nothing more than a little cyst but it's better safe than sorry.

okay will do but just wondering, what happens if it is a cyst ie what will the vet do?

He might leave it alone or lance it to get the fluid out. It depends on where it is and how big it is.

Ok thanks for that. I rung the vet who doesnt really know anything about guinea pigs (New Zealand vets dont really do much for small animals - couldnt even get a guinea pig fixed and for the smaller problems i seem to get better results researching it myself!) , she recommended that i leave it alone unless it grows bigger ( the cyst it is on her rump area) because its not causing her pain and she (the vet) has not done one before!. I have done some research on the net as well and i am 99.99% sure that it is a sebcocus cyst so would it be okay if i left it? its only about a thumbnail size and about 1/2cm thick and she has had it for a fair while and there has been no change in size. also is it possible for it to pop itself? Thank you guys so much for all your help

If it bursts itself it can and will most likely cause infection. If its not bothering her at all just now then i would say leave it, Keep a close eye on it. If you notice it getting any worse then ask the vet to prescribe baytril, its a guinea pig safe medicine that would help alot.
