Can someone please tell me what might be wrong, if anything? I read on one of the threads that Guinea pigs get this whitish milky stuff in there eyes to help clean it out. My guinea pig is getting that in his left eye and I just want to make sure he is ok. I just lost my job a few months ago so as much as I would like to take him to the vet I can't because I don't have the money. Please don't judge me, I am going through a hard time right now!!!

picture of his eye might help? then we can have a look. but forum advice does not replace a vets visit, if your worried vets is always the way to go. some vets will do payment plans so you dont have to pay it all in one go.

I agree with Dawn (above) a picture would help us alot. It may be something as simple as he may have been poked in the eye by a piece of hay.

Is his actual eye milky or is it just a milky fluid that's there? If it's just a fluid then there's nothing to worry about, it's just cleaning fluid. If the eye is milky then there might be a hay poke injury. Quite a few of my pigs have had that and it's no big deal. I would go to the vet if you can to get a pet-specific ointment. I got one from my vet and now I treat their eyes myself. First you have to make sure there's nothing stuck in there, so check under the eyelid above and below the eye. Then put in the drops (my vet gave me Genticin drops) and after that, put in a lubricant (e.g. Lachri-lube, which you can get in a pharmacy). The lubricant is just to ease the scraping feeling you get when there's a scratch on the eye surface, but you have to make sure the drops go in first and the lubricant goes on second.

Well...I will post a link to a picture of the whitish milky stuff in his eye... he doesn't have any whitish milky stuff in his eye anymore. His eye is getting worse though I think because now part of the outside part where the color in his eye ends has this red line like there is a bunch of blood in it, and the colored part is starting to turn all gray and smokey like he might be getting cataracts in that eye or going blind. I will post a picture of what that looks like.

I would definitely take him to see the vet. It looks like he could have a foreign body trapped in there but the pictures are unclear. x

Ahh I see. If the eye is very inflamed then I still suggest the vet. If not there is not much you can do about the cloudy eye, but as you said there was lots of discharge it may need a look at.

I would suggest a vet. I know what it's like going through hard times, but a lot of vets are very understanding and will set up payment plans or something. Just explain to your vet that you're going thruogh a tough time financially, most vets will understand. I would suggest going sooner rather than later, because it might get worse or if there is something stuck in him eye it could become infected if you wait too long.
