I have a young (8 month old) boar with the slobbers...he came down with scurvy a couple weeks ago which I cured with extra vitamin C tablets. But then we noticed weight loss and a wet neck, we saw that he wanted to eat but couldn't. We've been syringe feeding him Critical Care, vitamin C, and mashed pellets until we got him to the vet today.
He is scheduled for back teeth filing under sedation this Tuesday in Ann Arbor, Michigan (All Creatures Animal Clinic). My question is...for those who have dealt with this, is this something that recurs? I cannot bear to have him going under sedation often and I cannot afford it either (I'm already facing almost a $300 vet bill).
What are his chances that this is a one time deal? Will the vet be able to tell me if this is something he will have to deal with for the rest of his life?
If someone with experience in this could give me advice I would really appreciate it. This is very upsetting to me.

I hope your piggy is ok!! I have not dealt with teeth problems yet, but I'd give him apple wood or some kind of thing to chew on all the time just to make sure! That is an insane vet bill.

My vet checked my guinea pig's back teeth. She said sometimes they have to file them down. She didn't make it sound like a big, horrible thing. I have no idea if it happens over and over. I will ask next time I go to the vet.

I only know one person whose piggy has had teeth problems and so far it has recurred twice, maybe a year apart.
