Both of my guinea pigs have discharge in their eyes and the eye lids are semi-closed. Their eye balls themselves are not cloudy or appear damaged, its just the discharge and the semi closure. From my understanding it could be conjunctivitis? Has anyone had a similar problem? I have Fucithalmic eye drops, should I use them? So far we have been clearing their eyes with Saline, but that hasn't really helped. Any suggestions?

happy birthday olesya! I am not sure what to do about piggy eyes, but I really hope they are better soon! Maybe google the problem or take them to the vets... I will check in my Peter Gurney book and see if there is anything.

OK i just read you can try to flush out the eye -- towel wrap piggy, put him on his side, and use eye wash (human is ok). Gently massage the point just below the front of the eye, where the tear duct lies. This is for accumulation of waxy or gritty matter along the lower eye lid.. I just read in my guinea pig book. So that might help, or are they older piggies? It might just be fatty eye.

Thank you all for the support. Here is a picture of one of the guineas. Her second eye is now also infected We clean their eyes with saline, but it doesen't seem to make much difference unfortunately. Here are the pictures [/img]

I think most people use photobucket, but I use tinypic and didn't make an account. To attach pictures. I'm so sorry about your piggies! I really don't know much about that, so I would either try to google it or call the vet to ask.. you might have to make an appointment. What does it look like? Because I hear in older guinea pigs, the fatty eye is not really a problem.

Upload your photos onto photobucket or some othr image-hosting site. A lot of them have the [/img] code, I know photobucket does. Just put that in and the pic will show up.

One of my pigs had conjunctivitis before and the vet gave us fucithalmic and it worked really well. We also had to separate the pig from his herd, but if your two pigs are together and both have it then I suppose they can stay together. I think the treatment was twice a day for a week, I'll have to check the side of the box to be sure.
