HELP!!

I just checked on my guinea pigs and one of them is walking with her head tilted to one side. Is this an ear infection?
She was just fine 30 minutes ago! She was out of her cage running and playing. It just happened all of the sudden. Now she's keeping her head tilted every where she walks. She's still eating and drinking, but I'm very worried!!

HELP!!

I'm going to be taking her to the vet tomorrow, but I have to wait until my husband gets off work at around 6:00.
How worried should I be? I know ear infections can be cured, and I don't want to wait too long before taking her to the vet and have the problem get worse. But they're closed right now, and I won't have a car until around 6:30 tomorrow.
It seems odd that it happened so quickly. She was fine all day, and now she has a head tilt.

I could suggest many things it could be but not specific to cavys. So I will keep my fingers crossed for instead, hope it goes well at the vets.

HELP!!

Thanks, Pepper! When I woke up today, her head isn't really tilted anymore, so I think she must be feeling a little better. She's still eating and drinking and even popcorning...and stealing lettuce from her sister. I'm still taking her to the vet tonight, but I'm not quite as worried as I was before. Her head was quite tilted for quite a few hours...almost 90 degrees. So I'm very happy to see that she's feeling better today.

Hows your piggie doing now? She may have hit her head when popcorning or running about. Im not sure what time it is where you are so this question may not be relevant yet, but how did the vets go??
Hope shes ok

HELP!!
Mar 21, 2011 21:05:58 GMT

The vet went better than I expected. They said it was probably an air bubble in her inner ear that was caused by the changes in the weather lately. She said it was some kind of abnormality that begins with a "v" but I can't remember the term she used.
She said that the fact that Kara is feeling much better and back to normal today is a good sign. She also did say though that if it keeps happening, it may be a larger issue in her brain and she would need an MRI.
But she thinks it's most likely the inner ear bubble. She said it's rare, but it does happen. It happens a lot in old dogs.
Thanks so much for your help, you guys!! I'm happy that she doesn't need medication and everything is ok!!
She also checked for any signs of a respiratory infection since they were sneezing a lot when I first got them, and everything looked great. So that makes me relieved! It's possible the pet store I got them from or the breeder that they came from was using cedar bedding or something.

I'm glad the vet gave you the OK, on the head tilt and the sneezing. Edna was sneezing for a few days after I got her too, but doesn't anymore...I'm guessing it was the bedding too.
