Hi there! My name is Jessica. I'm 18 years old and live in San Francisco CA. I am new to this site and I just got my guinea pig last Monday. His name is Patches. He is 6 months old and sooo adorable. He lives in my room with my bf and I. Plus our 5 chinchillas and hamster. It feels like a pet store here sometimes. lol. We are currently looking into getting Patches a play mate and we are very excited to have found this sight. It's like Chins N Hedgies, but for guinea pigs. And that's just awesome!!

Wow! 5 chins?! That is pretty cool! I was considering getting a pair myself, but I decided I would wait until after vet school for that! My piggies are a handful as it is! hahaha!

Chin pictures would be lovely! Does Patches have a rosette on his head? I can't see in the photo. If not, he looks like a Tortoiseshell & white American guinea pig.

Really? Where? I never heard that before. I know you can pick them up by the tail though.

one of the ladys that brought one of their chinchillas said that its possible! i wouldnt be too suprised though becasue they seem to be very sensitive - like when you pick them up they can be overheat and get hot very fast!

hi again, i just googled it and found this... Q: So a chinchilla can't be picked up by the tail, can it be caught and held by the tail so you can get to the rest of its body before it gets away? Does part of the tail really come off when caught? A: Yes - that's why one must never grab the chinchilla's tail except at the very base. Part of the tail can and will come off when grabbed and held onto and the chinchilla is trying to get away. Abby has a slightly shorter tail than she should. Chinchillas may lose the tips of their tails if they get caught in something, an accident during an escape, a fight with another chinchilla, or mishandling. It's a trait common to many long-tailed animals, shedding part of their tail in order to escape danger alive. So i guess it is true - just not the wholetail!
