Hi,
My one and a half year old guinea pig drinks a ton of water. Is this normal? I know they eat a dry diet so I am sure they need to make up for moisture but it's ridiculous how much she drinks in a day. It has to be at least a 1/4 of a cup. Either she is bored, obsessed with the water bottle, or there is something wrong with her. She eats very well and gets fresh fruits and veggies daily so I just want conformation that alot of water consumption is normal for a pig. Thanks!!

Mine drink alot, I think it's cause they hardly sit still and are always moving being active and the sun don't help

Mine isn't in the sun? So that doesn't make any sense to me. I would think it had more to do with a dry pellet diet. It's kind of like a dog who eats an all dry dog food diet....they have to make up moisture loss with water consumption. I am just trying to see if it is normal or if it is cause for concern and maybe a vet trip. Thanks

mine live indoors, and they drink a whole bottle of water a day which is over half a litre, which would make it a quarter of a litre each per day. I think the bottle leaks though which adds to the problem, are you sure your bottle is not leaking?
To be honest though I have no idea how my two can drink so much!

I wouldn't call 1/4 cup much. I have one that will empty a 16 oz water bottle every day.

Some pigs like to play with their water bottles as well, so it looks like they're drinking a lot more than they really are. If your pig has always drank a lot then it's okay but if there was a sudden change then I would monitor it.
