My little piggy had a large abssess on the side of his face about 2 months ago now. He had an operation to have it flushed and stitched. He has been doing well, but there is still a small wound that i just cant get to heal. He has been on antibititics and i have been prescribed hibiscrub to clean the wound. The porblem is that the wound just doesnt seem to be healing and he gets really stressed with me when i have to wash it. Any ideas??

Abscess's can be a nightmare to clear up 100%. I have found that although they get flushed and cleaned the wound takes a good while to clear up and the pig will often be left with a small solid scar. I have also had the sad experience of a sow who was prone to abscess's, she had one under her neck which got cleaned and healed eventually, then another formed elsewhere and another and another. After 6 months of constant treatment my poor sow gave up and refused to eat and move. I had no choice but to end her suffering and get her pts.
Im not saying this will reoccur with your pig but try to keep the wound clean, hibiscrub is good for this. I also found applying sudocrem really helped the healing process. Keep a very close eye on the wound so you can catch any infection quickly. Did the vets use dissolveable stitches??
Im sure your pig will heal up soon

I've only had a pig with an abscess once and out vet told us not to let it close, but every day we had to massage around it and try to squeeze out any pus that was forming, and after a few days a lot of hard greyish-white stuff came out and our vet said that was the lining of the abscess and afterwards it closed and healed. I know it's in an awkward place for you to do that though.

I have had a GP with an abscess on her chin and it took weeks to heal properly. Squeezing it can be the worst, especially when they're screaming at you! With my GP the hole healed up as soon as the abscess was fully drained. I can also recommend sudocrem it works miracles on any bumps and scrapes!
