I haven't seen my guinea eat her own poo in a while, she has had a sore bum for a while. Her friend died from what seemed to be pooing problems. She is pooin ok but I do find some soft poos in her cage during the day. Is it normal that I don't see her eating them? She's inside and I'm around a lot. I'm worried about her.
Thanks

it is my understanding that pooing too soft can be by feeding too much lettuce, fruit, or vegetables. It is a good thing for them but they can eat too much of it, and it can cause pooing issues. I wouldn't worry too much about not seeing her eating her poo. But if she still has pooing problems I would take her to the vet and get her checked out.

Coprophagia as its known is perfectly normal and usually occurs when we arent looking. Guinea pigs tend to eat their own faeces at night. They dont do this as often as rabbits so i wouldnt worry if you dont see your pigs doing this.
If there is alot of soft faeces then you may be feeding too many watery veggies, ie cucumber or lettuce. If the soft faeces carries on after cutting down on watery veggies then i would seek vet advice.

Thank you for your replies. Her poos seem much better. Not seen any soft ones today. Will keep an eye on her. Thanks again. Kerry x

Hope your piggy is going well. I also find that if I change hay brand the pigs can get soft poos for a day or two until they adjust so if you've made any changes to her diet then this could also explain it.
