This evening i have taken my pig to the vets, to be told she has a protruding eye which is swollen and she has gone blind in it.. Thing is the vet did not give me much on options either -
1 - to have an operation to remove the eye 2 - to have her put to sleep
Just wondering did anyone have any advice on this or ever been in the same situation?? My pig is 7 years old, she seems ok in general eating, drinking and pottering about her cage. It's an awful position to be in.

If there is no infection in or around the eye then i dont see why it should be removed. At 7 years of age i wouldnt risk surgery. I have a 6 and a half year old sow who is blind in one eye and she copes great.
Aslong as shes eating. Drinking and her normal self i would leave the eye unless of course the vet says theres infection or what not.

I agree, if the eye is not infected and it's not causing your guinea pig any pain then I would leave her as she is. I wouldn't put her through an operation at her age but I wouldn't put her to sleep if she's otherwise healthy.
