Ever since an incident where I clipped one of my piggies quick, I have an awful fear of doing it all over again. I know that kind of stuff just happens, but I felt REALLY terrible. It was the first time I had accidentally done that to any animal. (I have a dog as well, but I never had that happen with him) Anytime I go to clip my piggies nails now, I get really shaky like I'm performing heart surgery or something. Anyone else ever feel this bad? I feel stupid for being THAT scared of it. P.s. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I had no idea where to put this.

I do but I just do it, I have a preg sow and noticed her back claw didn't look right, so I checked and she had broke it, so I had to pull it off, which made her bleed, I felt stressed cause my girl is preg and I had to pick her up and she's got a week left so I do know how you feel

It's natural to be a bit nervous, especially if you've already quicked your pig before, but just take your time, try to look for the blood vessel and only take off a tiny bit at a time. Even if you do quick your piggy, it only hurts them for a little while. Keep some styptic powder or flour or ground coffee nearby so you can dip the nail into it to help stop the bleeding. Then give your piggy a nice treat of veg or something and they'll get over it. They won't hold it against you!
In the end, it's worse not to clip the nails because the nails can curl around into the soft pad of the feet and cause more pain than just cutting the quick will do.

I would just keep bowl of flour near you and then let your pig rest his paws in it for a few minutes.
I like to hold a stick of celery after they get their nails clipped. It's nice for them to just relax on my lap and nibble on something yummy! And then they seem to find the experience not so bad!

Nail clipping can be a nervous time. but it needs done and once you have done it a few times you will become more confident. I have clipped nails for years and years from rats, guinea pigs, rabbits and dogs.
Im more than confident doing this but even I have nipped the quick a few times. Usually because the pig has jerked his leg or just by accident (usually with the black claws)
If your unsure or a little worried you could always clip little and often, Say every two weeks snip the tip off, this way the bloodline will work its way back and the nail will get gradually shorter, You will then see/notice the growth and know exactly where to snip.
