Hi Everyone! Exactly 8 weeks ago i put my Black and buff Boar (Speckles) with my Dark Chocolate and Buff Sow (Magic) together. When i first put them together the boar was mounting her so i put the date down, but she has only just started to show! I guess around 5-6 weeks into pregnancy, should i seaprate them now? I am only wondering because if she did concieve on the first day then she has 2 weeks to go. If she is 8 weeks pregnant im guessing two pups maximum. My other female (Coco) looked like she had swallowed a mango, 2 weeks before birth wheras the female in question (Magic) only looks like she has swallowed a large apple :/ Confused on what to do next lol....Any ideas please, would be much appreciated!

Remove her, and make sire plenty of fresh hay and fresh food

I would say remove her as theres a high chance she is pregnant. I tend to keep my sows with boars for around 8 - 10 weeks aslong as they both stay happy with eachother. All sows will progress differently.
Best of luck

Hi again, i have left her with Speckles as i need to have a shuffle around to give her, her own space to give birth. This is the lady herself! Hope that worked lol She is either 2, 5 or 8 weeks pregnant, give or take a few days Im edging more towards 5 weeks as she has only just started to show and movement inside is minimal. But she is bigger in real life, im expecting between 2-5 pups What do u think? Thanks

Really?! damn! haha Umm She could live with Coco as she is friendly with other females and had a litter 9 weeks ago so she alone again I just prefer to give the pregnant females there own cage so they can deliver without feeling on edge :/ but the only way i could do this is to put Speckles with Coco and give Magic her own cage but that then means that Coco will become pregnant again :/ which i think its too soon maybe another month or two. Im gunna have some serious thinking to do lol I did have enought cages when i intentionally bred these two together but since then one of my cages not survived the bad weather lately and had to be chucked :/ Unsure what to do now, should i put magic in with Coco or have magic on her own but risk Coco becoming a mother again so soon after birth? im really stuck now Any help would be much appreciated

I would put the girls together if they get along. Coco will probably help Magic with the birth and looking after the babies. I think it would be much too soon to let Coco have another litter, her body won't have fully recovered from the pregnancy yet as the babies sap a lot of nutrients away from their mother, including calcium for healthy bones and this takes a while to build up again.

I tried to put sweetpea on her own away from the other girls, and she panicked, she hated it so sweetpea and her 4 babies live with 7 sows, And in the wild there live together and help each other out

Guinea pigs if possible are best kept in at least pairs when pregnant as they can get lonely. Some sows will not tolerate another but in most cases the friend will help in many ways.
I wouldnt risk putting your sow who has recently littered near a male. Its far too soon for her to become pregnant. She needs a good few months to fatten up and get her body back into shape.

Hi guys she has been put in with Coco Speckles is not appreciative one little bit, bless him! I was thinking of re-mating Coco when MAgics babies have been raised and rehomed maybe later depending on how much weight she has put on Plus Coco was mated with a different boar originally (Albino) so maybe some different colours will be produced I thought magic went into labour on the run earlier as she passed a lot of fluid, had a white tinge to it and she started straining :/ but im confident she hasnt lol I will keep you all posted

Hi just a little update Magic and Coco are getting along just fine I have used the 'Pregnancy Calender' on this forum and it shows that she should be due on the 14th of September so 4 days away (hopefully) although i reckon she'll go longer lol! Here is a pic i just took Does anyone think by this pic that she is nearly full term or did she catch later? I think shes getting fed up of being preggers bless her! I will update on any progress

She looks like she could have a wee while to go, unless shes holding a small litter. Im glad the two sows are getting along ok. Its always nice to see and hear. I always allow around 6 months for the sow to recover and put weight on and relax before breeding again.
All sows are different so she could deliver any day now or she could hold onto them. Thats the joys of guinea pigs. They like too keep us on our toes.

Hi Kayleigh Well she only starts to show around 3 weeks ago (6 weeks of being together) but has been gettin bigger by the day i swear lol! to be honest i think it is a small litter, its just a hunch though. Yep im glad to! was so worried cuz they've never met before, but they snuggled right upto each other :') And i agree, Coco has just strted to get back to her normal, non pregnant weight but i will leave it till im ready for another litter I have three 7 week old sow's that i purchased for pets/occasional breeding. i gather they should be put with a male at around 16 weeks? it this correct in your experience? Many thanks

If you are planning on breeding them then yes they should be paired with a boar around 16 -24 weeks old. It all depends on their weight, health and general wellbeing. Personally 16 weeks is often a little young in my experience. I like to let the youngsters be young and wild before breeding them. 4 weeks makes a fair bit of difference weight and mature wise.
Best of luck and i hope your sow doesnt keep you waiting too long.
Keep us posted

Hi just an update. She still hasnt had them lol! i checked the calender and she was 70 days yesterday, not wednesday....oops! lol but still no babs i guess its a waiting game now she still doin fine with Coco and still eating and drinking like a horse Kayleigh - I was thinking about the 3 sows i said about, well 4 now cuz i went to get the other sister lol, i just couldnt resist! well anyway i was thinking maybe mate them at 20 weeks (5 months) if correct weight etc. but doing it in groups of 2 instead of having 4 litters at the same time. Oh god that would keep me on my feet lol! Anyhoo....this is Magic about 3 days ago I still think only 2 babies for her, which would be good, so's not too many to keep eyes on haha. I personally think she may have caught on her second season of being with Speck's I can still feel them kicking frequently just not as hard (lack of space im guessing lol). I gathered that this kicking stops when birthing approaches. Again many thanks

Aslong as the sows are of sufficient weight 5 months should be ok. Also make sure they are 100% healthy, teeth, mouth, genital area and are happy sows. I would also advise against breeding more than 2 sows just so you dont have too much on your hands. As if anything was to go wrong you could have vet bills coming in left right and centre.
How is your sow doing now? Any signs of pups?

Fair point Kayleigh! i dont wanna be stuck with loads of babies and poss vet bills at the same time :/ plus i would be worrying like crazy, cuz to be honest im worrying like crazy about Magic at the minute, could you imagine how stressed i would be with 4 preggers sows?! crazyness lol! and nope still no pups. Day 72 now(from day of pairing) so im hoping she got caught on her second season. i can feel them VERY prominantly, to the point where i think im touchin piggy teeth, quite scary! :/ Will keep eveyone updated

nope still no babies getting slightly worried now though :/ she is 11, well nearly 12 days over due (81/82 days) but im convinced she concieved on her second season. So 16-18 days later, so 5-7 days more possibly. Bubs are still kicking and mum is eating and still acting normal. Will keep updating
