Hello, I recently got three guinea pigs. I am new to owning guniea pigs though have done a lot of research. Long story short, they were sortof a rescue. A man dumped them on someones doorstep telling her if she didnt take them he was going to drown them. He told her they kept having babies and eating them, they were useless. They had been fed only lettuce and oranges. Due to her situation she could not keep them and I took them in. When I first got them a week and a half ago they were not well. Terrified of people, they were dirty and smelled covered in their own feces and the tiny pet store cage holding all three of them was discusting. Poor babies had home made woodchips which were more like slivers of wood for bedding. Even the watter bottle was dirty on the inside. I scrubbed the cage and got 2 new water bottles they are now on timothy hay, pebbles and a wide variety of vegtables and some fruit. They only spend time in the cage at night or when we are not home and since I work at home that is not often. And they are no longer scared of us. I know Daisy is pregnant and I'm sure Clover is as well. I plan to get Donald fixed before the babies are born. One of my questions is, do I need to separate all three or can I leave Daisy and Clover together? And any advice or info you could give me would be much appreciated.

You cab leave your two sows together, they should be fine, but the male will have to have his own cage, are you feeding any dry food???

Well done for taking them in. You can house the sows togeather but the boar must be housed on his own. If the sows are pregnant they must be fed a nice diet of a guinea pig pellet or muesli, fresh veggies and plenty of hay. They should also get regular exercise but try not to overhandle when they become heavily pregnant.
Best of luck

Please also note you must wait at least 6 weeks after Donalds surgery before he can be housed with the sows again.

They have guinea pig pebbles that would be dry food yes? I do know that Donald would have to be kept apart from the girls for six weeks after his sugery also. Other than them having free roam of upstairs, is there anything else I could do with them for exercise? I was told a wheel is not good for them.

I have no idea what pig peebles are. Do you have a picture of the food and the packaging? Wheels, leashes and balls are all a big NO for guinea pigs. Their bodies arent meant for that type of exercise. Allowing them free roam of an area is plenty for them. Aslong as they are secure and safe.

Pebbles/pellets, guinea pig food that you buy at the pet store... Good to know about the leash, I was considering that so I wont do that. My home is 100% babyproof so guinea pigs should be ok too. There is nothing in their reach that they can get harmed from.

Ahh ok yes petstore guinea pig food is fine. It contains all the goodness they require along side fruit, veg and lots of hay.
Leashes are a big no no. Although pet stores advertise and sell them as "ok" Not many pet stores really know much if im honest. But thats why we are all here. to help and advise and to ensure everyones piggies are happy and thriving.

Yes I love pet forums. I have a leopard gecko also and found the forums very helpful. Online research only helps so much since there is a lot of contradicting advice. I gave the three babies cilantro for the first time today and they went nuts! They loved it! Thanks for all the help, if I have any more questions I'll be sure to ask

Forums are wonderful things. And its always nice to find a nice welcoming one where no arguements occur. (iv been on a few where people just nip nip nip)
My pigs go nuts for cilantro too, They only get it a few times though as i cant get lots of it. haha.

That is so sad to hear what they went through. Congrats on taking them in and making them your own babies. Why can't people understand tht animals have feelings too!?

They sure did come from a bad situation. They are doing much better now. Their coats are clean and soft and they are loving the wide variety of food they are now getting and the extra space to run. They are playing a lot now. I am about to make the switch from aspen to fleece
