Is the eye swollen? Is it matted shut or... maybe oozing anything? If there's ooze, what color?

Vets really arent that expensive. You could try just phoning them up and asking for advice.
I would suggest cleaning around the eye with warm water just so you can get a good look. Have you noticed if she had wounded the eye area.
A picture would really help. Hair loss could be mites, mange or ringworm. All are treatable at home and with products from pet stores. BUT as its near the eye you must make sure you treat correctly.

I agree, give the vet a call and you could even ask them if they allow you to pay in instalments, so you could maybe just pay $10 a month or something like that.
Does your guinea pig live alone or with a friend? Just to know is it a skin problem or a falling out between your piggies.
You can buy sterile saline in small tubes quite cheaply from the chemist. You could get some of those and use it to gently rinse the area. That will help you assess how the skin looks underneath.

The bit round the eye has got worse , we are taking him to vets soon,, it looks like he has scratched the bit where the fur was missing because there is blood , thanks for your support anyway

i recomand calling the vet n explaing what is wrong with it. it if u can`t aford a vet mine i don`t even find them costly seeing how mine only costs me 20$ a vist >< but even then there are some vets that will accept payments if u are low income n can`t aford it. and i hope it works out for u.
