Hi I had a litter of 4 babies born just over two weeks ago and unfortunatly one died. This baby has a tad crusty-ness on his eye but he died from being rolled on, im pretty sure of it as i had a guinea house in their and he was under his mum and was flat But anyway today i noticed one of the little sows has a cloudy blue eye :/ i only noticed it today, but it covers most of the eye It looks quite frightening but she still eats and knows where mum and siblings are but im still slightly worried. Can anyone on here shed some light on what may be occuring? There is a guinea pig at my college that has this, but it is just a cataract? Anyway here is a pic Any help would be much appreciated ASAP thankyou

Sorry you lost a pup. I find it best to remove all pigloos ect when my sows deliver. That way i can keep an eye on them and theres no squash risk.
As for the blue eye, unless the pup has a hay poke or something in the eye then it could well be blind. Was it born this way? If not i would be more inclined to say it has had an eye injury. Have a good look at the eye and check theres no debris in it.

HI kayleigh, Yeah i was devestated when i lost him as he was my favourite but im not gunna dwell on it as these things do happen and we learn from our mistakes, so yeah no igloos anymore, stupid of me really as when i found Magic had popped, Coco, Magic and the 4 babies where under it :/ but i took it out after i found the pup dead. The pup with the blue eye was my second favourite and i was going out of my mind yesterday, but i have spoken to a breeder and she said she is exhibiting all of the signs she had with one of her pups! a hay poke to the eye, and it cleared up in week and a friend of mine had it also! And no she was born with nice clear eyes, and it developed almost overnight! i was mortified, but im hoping everything will clear up, i have bathed around the eye with a cotton bud as there was a bit of crust (im guessing due to her having being poked in the eye, and her closing her eye, just like we would lol) Her eye (touch wood) looks slightly better from yesterday, cause there's not as much blue around her eyeball. But all that said she is still the most lively piglet out of them, very confident and still going to mum, Coco and siblings for warmth and company etc. I will keep you posted ThankYou

Ahh thats good news. Blue eyes in pups and adults alike usually means a hay poke or something. A blind guinea pig will usually get a white hazy eye.

My pigs have had a few hay poke injuries and they all look like that, sort of blue-ish, and it clears up in a few days so long as there is no debris left in the eye.
