Idk what happened. His eye looked totally normal 2 days ago and I look in today and I'm scared....his eye looks blind. Does it look blind to you? How can a guinea pig go blind??

This is his right eye. Normal. As a comparison for the other picture.

guinea pigs can go blind, but lots of guinea pigs live long happy unaltered lives by going a bit blind from what I hear. I am sure though that an eye going that suddenly is more likely to mean an injury, perhaps he poked himself with a piece of hay? it could be something worse so let the vet take a look at him but try not to panic

We have a little sow that had a coronary ulcer when we got her. Her eye was very very foggy and glassy looking. We took her to the vet and they gave us stuff for her eye and within 3 weeks, her eye was normal. I'm not saying that it's a coronary ulcer your guinea pig has, but it's possible. If you can see one of Leela's eyes were very foggy and it looked horrible. I felt so sorry for her I had to get her, but now her eye is fine.

I would say that's an injury rather than blindness. He might have gotten a hay poke injury. My pigs have had a good few and generally if you make sure the piece of hay or whatever is not still stuck in there then it cures itself within a week or so. Sometimes you'll need to get drops or an ointment from the vet just to prevent infection. At the very least you can go to the pharmacist and get a product called "lachrilube", which is a little lubricant that's for humans but safe for piggies (just don't tell the chemist that's what it's for!) If you put in a little twice a day it means that if there's any sscrape to the eye surface it'll not be so sore. You know yourself how annoying it is if you get grit in your eye, so it's just to ease that discomfort. On the other hand if it is a little cataract or something, I really wouldn't worry too much. Three of my pigs were born with mild cataracts and it hasn't affected their quality of life at all. Piggies' vision isn't the best anyway so they learn to cope really well without it. I have some pics here of when my girl Hilda got a really bad scratch on her eye and she's perfectly cured now, there isn't even any scarring, which the vet was surprised about because the scrape was so deep.

It went away completely! It looks as if nothing was wrong with it in the first place. Must have been a hay poke then I guess .
