We seperated our 3 boys more than a week ago because they simply could not get along (2 we adopted together and the 3rd we added after we got them). At first they didn't get along, but gradually we introduced them and we were able to house them together. A few days before our female had her babies the boys were fighting so bad they had to be seperated and they have been seperate ever since. The other day, I was cleaning cages and had no choice but to put them together for a few minutes and I thought it would be ok since I was right there and could tend to them....I was wrong They got in a really nasty fight and while I seperated them as fast as I could, I later noticed that Patches was squinting his eye. I thought it would get better, but it keeps getting worse. Tonight, it had a layer of discharge and while I was rinsing it, I noticed he has a cut on the top of his head right above his eye (kind of between his eyes but right next to his affected eye). The cut does not look infected and upon looking closer at his eye it looks like his eye lid may have been cut as well. The cuts do not look red or infected at all, but his eye does. Is there anything I can treat his eye with OTC? The conjunctiva looks inflamed on his lower lid.

Boars will be boars and when they decide not to get along they never will. Fights can and do break out very quickly and can be nasty.
With regards to treating the eye, keep it clean and i would suggest putting the pig on a flat newspaper bedding to prevent loose particles getting in. You can use salt water to keep it clean.
If it doenst begin to heal or it becomes swollen you should seek vet advice. how close to the eye is the cut? and how is eye itself looking?

I rinsed it with saline and got all the pus/discharge out last night. The eye itself looks fine and the cuts look fine. Today, the swelling looks like it has gone down and there was no new pus. He had his eye shut the most of the beginning part of the day and it still has a squinty look (not swollen, but like he's closing it). I tried to get him into a vet but after calling dozens and getting office visit price ranges from $70-125 not including any meds he would need, I was not able to afford to take him anywhere so I am left to treat it the best I can myself. I will keep it clean and treat the cut on his head with neosporin and hope he continues to improve! As far as his bedding...his cage is lined with fleece.

That's ridiculously expensive! Wow! For a piggy! No kidding, but I get checkups and meds for all 14 of my guinea pigs for €90.
Your chemist will have a product called Lacrilube or something like that (I don't know if it has a different name in the US). It's for humans and it's a type of liquid tears but a bit greasier and it's safe for guinea pig use. It'll just lubricate the eye a little and if there's a little scratch on the eye surface it will stop it being sore and irritating (like the way if you get a bit of grit on your eye and it's really sore). It should cost less than $5, I'd say, and one tube will last for ages if you keep it closed really tight. You just put a little bit in the affected eye once or twice a day. It doesn't actually treat the injury but it lessens the discomfort for your pig.
The actual white spot on the eyeball should go within a week or two. That's just a natural reaction to the eye being injured. Keep a close eye, though, and if it deteriorates you may need to get an antibiotic for it.

Hmmm, I have no idea. I only know lacrilube is safe because it's what our vet has given to us for the (numerous!) eye injuries our piggies have had. Sorry! I don't want to say it's okay and then for it to hurt him.

I am thrilled to report that Patches eye looks like it is healed! The cloudy white spot is gone and his eye is bright and healthy looking. He doesn't squint it anymore...all is back to normal...although, he is missing a small chunk of his top eyelid, my poor little guy! Looks like he'll have a battle wound to carry with him forever, but it seems he will suffer no long term effects and it healed without a visit to the vet!
As far as Pepe (the piggy who injured him)....we made the difficult decision to find him a new home, but since we can't house him with our piggy's it was in the best interest of everyone to find him a new home! He is going to make some little girl very happy on Christmas morning .
