Last night when we found our girl, Lottie, with a very severe head tilt, we knew something was definitely up! We immediately separated her from her cagemates to prevent spreading. Because she was so disoriented, with hand fed her and gave her water orally via syringe.
She had an appointment with the vet scheduled for this afternoon. What we suspected was an ear infection turned out to be just that. Our vet did cultures of her ear to make sure no parasites were involved. He also checked her lungs to rule out a URI. After a thorough cleaning of her ears and an injection of fluids, we left the vet with Baytril (both drops and tablets).
Lottie already seems to be improving. Her head tilt is not as severe and she is eating and drinking in small amounts. We hope for a full recovery. Thanks goodness we caught it so fast!
We'll keep you posted!

Sadly head tillts in my experience and of those i know with pigs with tilts never really heal 100%. And although a bizzare thing to see, my Turk is acutally know for his head tilt by man. We call him mr head squint or tilty turk! Hehe. He acutally responds to this too.
I hope your pig recovers.

Lottie went back for a checkup today to see how she is progressing. The infection is not 100% clear, but it is much better. She's on Baytril for another week. Hopefully she'll be feeling much better soon!
