My pregnant sow Smudge has really gotten big last couple of days. She's really eating and drinking loads. Today i noticed a big difference and she keeps lying down flat out even when she's eating her hay not just in her hideys. I can see the babies moving loads when she lies flat. Got myself all nervous thinking it's imminent and watched some you tube videos to know what to expect but just freaked myself out a bit! ha ha She's still waddling round happy in between lying flat out. Do you think it's soon. Have no idea how far gone she is as she was pregnant when we had her. She's gone a bit starry looking (if you know what i mean) as if to say don't you dare try and stroke me!!! What are the signs to know she's about to start labour??

It sounds like her body is preparing herself for labour. The best way to tell is to see if her pelvic bones are open. You can usually tell this by running your fingers down her spine and when you get to her genital area you should be able to feel two bones (her pelvis) if they are seperated then shes probably going to deliver in the next 48 hours or so.
(dont put too much pressure if you search for her pelvis as it can cause pain if too much pressure is applied)
Best of luck and keep us updated.
Im constantly checking on my two rescued sows as they are due any day now.

I keep checking too. It's exciting and scary at same time. I hope everything goes ok. Half of me would love to be there to watch her and to make sure everything ok. The other half wants me just to wake up and they will be there running round cage!!! I'll keep you posted.

Still no sign of babies! She's still content and plodding around but then just flops down. The babies are wriggling like mad. They are so active! Poor Smudge must be exhausted with all that wriggling going on inside her! She's eating loads too as i'm sure she needs the extra energy! My daughter and i are dreaming about Guinea pig babies every night ha ha! COME ON BABIES!!!!!!

Another two days on and still no babies!!! She is really enjoying keeping me waiting!!! I'm now thinking there is more than two looking at the size of her! She looks so cute when she flops down for a rest and her tummy spreads out! Ha ha. I know this is a daft question, but do you see the babies drop down lower into her abdomen like how a woman drops when she's due?

You will see the babies move lower yes, but you will feel more so. Her pelvic bones will open and usually this means she has 48 hours odd to go. Although the pelvis may open and close for a few days.
It is a nice long waiting game!! Id love to see a photo of her!

Well if the pet shop was right with how old she was when we had her that would make her only just over 14 weeks old! She is a baby herself which is why i'm a bit anxious about her having these babies! We have had her 6 weeks so she must have caught on her first season probably when she was still with the breeder before she went to pet shop!!! I've let the pet shop know so they can have a word with breeder as they are obviously not seperating them quick enough. I hope babies are ok aswell with maybe being interbred too! I don't want her to get any bigger now!! Hurry up Smudge!!!!!

Another couple of days had passed and i'm going insane waiting for these babies!!!!!!!! She has been quieter today and the babies are wriggling all the time. Maybe when i wake up in the morning they'll be here. I really can't see her going much longer as i don't think her little body could stand the babies getting much bigger. Getting a bit anxious. ( actually a lot anxious!)

My sow got really quite and still the night before. I thought it was odd because she is always walking around the cage. She ended up having the babies the next morning. Please post pics of the babies I would live to see the babies colors. The mom is beautiful!
