We've noticed that at each side of Warren's fin down his back, he has lost hair just under his shoulder blades. We hadn't really noticed it but I thought it was because of him and Brendan fighting, he was taken to the Bf's and then brought back, he now lives in a cage next to Brendan so they can't fight each other. Would the hair loss be because of them fighting, the stress of moving house various times or could it be something else? Because we only had an indoor cage to put Warren in, we covered the cage with a carpet that we had in the garage. It's around 3/4 years old but it has been in the garage (which does have mice in due to it being the piggy/rabbit food and hay storage) So could mites be the cause of his hair loss if they were in the carpet and just fallen on top of him? His skin is crusty where the hair loss is and the tips of his ears are crusty. OhMyGosh! I have him out to check him over whilst writing this and he has a big cut in the middle of his back where the hair loss is. He hasn't been with any other piggies and it looks quite fresh =( Does anyone know why this is happening? My vet opens at 2 so I'm going to try get an appointment today but any advice would be appreciated. He's eating fine but is very fidgetty =(

Have you treated him for a fungal infection? As scratching could cause cuts that look nasty. The parts under his legs are they dry patches?

I rang the vets and got an appointment as soon as I could... £44.20 later they've given me some spot on treatment for mites that I have to give him every 2 weeks. We've completely disinfected his cage and I've washed and disinfected his fleece hammock about a million times! Every other piggy is fine. We're assuming its because of the carpet cover, so we've moved that out of the way. Will the other guys be okay? or should I treat them anyway just to be on the safe side?

Under his legs were fine, no dry patches that I could see. How do I know the difference between fungal infection and mites?

Mites make the pigs scratch a fair bit and hair loss is usually over the back area and mites will spread super quick to everyone and everything, fleece, shavings, hay ect.
If its mites every pig and every cage will need treated now and again in 2 weeks, possibly again 4 weeks after that.
I would however suggest removing all snuggle sacs/cosies ect if you have them, wash them and treat them and just wait for the all clear before giving them back.
Fungal infections look like dry skin, and if you tug even a little at hair close to the fungus the hair will just pull away. It will leave bald patches and eventually crusty little pieces of skin. Itchy and irritating.
My vet tried to tell me my Godric had mites and said ivermec, but i knew it was fungal so asked for the septrin as i have ivermec at home.
Give it a week or so with the ivermec, if it starts to get better then id say mites, but if theres no improvement, or theres more patches popping up then id suggest getting some fungal cream.

Warren's hair doesn't pull away when I tug it. When should I see an improvement? Warren is in his own cage which is next to Brendans, the hay isn't touching or anything as the plastic bottom of Warren's cage is higher than the hay that pokes out a bit. Also, Vincent and Zac are high above Warren and Brendan in the top tier of the hutch.. Will the mites have got to them all? (I've never had this problem before so I have no idea what to do =S) Is there another place I can get the invermec if I should treat the other pigs, I don't really want to pay £132.60 for it from the vets =S Also, it says it should only be used for up to 800g... Vincent is 1kg so do I need to use something stronger for him?

Would it be one packet per piggy or a certain amount of tubes per piggy etc?

1 box usually contains 4 pipettes. And you use 1 pipette per pig (i think) the instructions are all very clear and stated.
I now use bimectin as its cheaper for me to get so cant remember 100% about the beaphur .

I would probably say mites as well or a fungal infection ( who knows what those mice were carrying?) the Scratches could be from him obbsesivley scratching himself and the bald patch Behind his ear looks like the one Ollie had -_-
