Yesterday I noticed my piggy was leaning her head to the left side an aweful lot. could tell she didn't feel well and her eye on that side just looked different than the other side. I cleaned her eyes, they were a little crusty but in my g.p. book stated the common cause of head tilting could be earmites? Anyone have any idea what to do or try over the counter? I did get some wipes for pets and clean her and the other piggies ears. Just don't want to risk getting the other piggies infected if that what it is. Any help would be appreciated. Afgter cleaning her ears, her head is still tilted but not as bad.

Head tilts can be caused by an ear infection which would need to be treated with septrin or baytril, these are only available from a vets though, If its ear mites, there will be a dark brown substance in the ears, Much like coffee granules. You can buy ear mite drops and wipes from pet stores. But its unlikely this has caused the tilt.

Wanted to update the topic, went to the vet. The vet saw no signof ear mites or infection. Nothing wrong with her teeth or eyes. He told me to separate her and callhim back on monday and wednesday. She is eating, drinking and pooping okay. The head is not as lopsided as it was. Hope she is fine. My girls lost their beloved Cupcake in July. Just wanted to keep ya'll posted andupdated. In case ya'll have any thoughts. Thanks for the help n support.

A head tilt is commonly caused by 2 things (if not born with it) and these are ear infections or a knock to the head.
I hope shes ok.

So today I woke up and Sweetie Pie sounded like she was wheezing. I checked her nose which the vet didn't do and found some crusty stuff in the nose on that side of the head tilt. I called the vet back and he is prescribing Baytril but I am nervous about giving it to my piggy. Is it safe? I am being told to give 1/10th of this pill2x day. Either give the small pill form by mouth or smash up and mix small amt of water and give in mouth by syringe. Just wanted some input since this is all new to me. I hope that everything will be fine with her. She is so gentle and kind. I noticed all this last Thursday and just today will be starting the med. She is eating, drinking and pooping the same. She just isn't as active as her normal self, just can tell she don't feel good. Gotta go get the med. Will check back here in a bit.

Baytril is fine, its a common thing used for guinea pigs, same with septrin, It is however usually in liquid form. Just follow the vets advice and it should be ok..
