Hello, recently my fiance and I adopted a young boar. We noticed that he has been a little stressed getting adjusted to his new home but otherwise doing generally well. However, the past two days he's been a little sneezy and has a patch of matted under his 'tail' (extra vertabre) We think it may be his scent glad over reacting but wanted to be sure. And to make sure all we need to do his clean him with a little soap and water. I am not sure how to attach multiple pictures at the moment but here is one view...

He is adorable! I can't answer your question though. I am sure someone here can though.

The matting under the tail ( which generally should have a sticky brown goo) is completely normal all it needs is a bit or warm water on a paper towel and gently rub the mess away (some of the matted fur may come off with it though this is completely fine. Boars are generally messier then sows so I tend to clean my boars grease gland once every two weeks or more of needed. Try to refrain from using soap because then it might get into his eyes or dry and harden on the skin and make him itchy, even when you bath him try using baby shampoo or gentle tear free puppy shampoo, as for the stress try for the first week to refrain from holding him and try to only reach in to feed him then he will associate humans with good things such as "hand reaches in cage I get food!" I'm not saying this will make him completely comfortable with handling but one step at a time, hope this helps

Its just his grease gland. Perfectly normal and the best thing to clean this with is swarfega or good ole fairly liquid. Rub it in and wash it off. Some boars need this done more often than others. I usually clean my boars every 6 months if they need it.
My himi boars get theirs done before shows ect as they need nice white hair! and their grease gland can get a little dirty.
It will also become more active if they are used for breeding.

Thanks for the advice and compliments! Tuck is looking better, has started letting us pet him in his cage and is getting better about letting us pick him up :-) We've had him for a week now and is starting to realize he's stuck with us!
