Went to the vet with Bella, 1st pic is our nap afterwards. While we were there, I noticed a small cage with about 5-6 Guinea Pigs, from two 1wk olds up to 6wk olds. They were free, I asked to find out which were girls, since I have two sisters here at home. Lady was holding the last female she sexed and I pointed to another I'd like instead. Somehow, everyone there started ooing and awwing and I came home with two girls! My two girls are almost a year old, a rust/lilac and a black. They are Abyssinian and Peruvian crosses. The new girls are a dark chocolate w/a white blaze on shoulder. Other is almost black, but is brown in good light, she also has a blaze on the shoulder, but on the opposite side as the sister. Also, I'd like to know what colors my pigs would be officially called.

I use Polish words for names, thus, I need to figure out their coloring. Older two are Czarny-black & Rudy-rusty.

Being kept on? What do you mean, bedding or feed? They hate most hay and the only hay I always have they never like. So they do not have any. I don't see how hay is a natural food source, especially if they eat greens most of the time. I found a brand of food they gorge themselves on, before, a 5# bag would last months. But the one I have now, they just love the stuff! And it's full of just good things, few fillers and few frills.

The hay is really good for trimming up their teeth and is also good for the digestive system. What kinds of hay have you tried?

W/e my horses eat and the hay in Petstores. They have a chew hide and eat house they love. Does a great job trimming the teeth. I got a free, tiny bag of Timothy, so far they like it. But soon they will tire of it and not want anymore.

I meant what bedding, shavings ect? As it looks like a sand or sawdust type bedding.
And i must say hay is a MUST! So please give them some, its not only to keep their teeth trim but also to keep their digestion going amongst other things. If anything guinea pigs need hay over their pellet food. Hay is a natural feed as we cannot supply them with fresh grass on a daily basis so we must provide hay,
Greens ect are also very good and all pigs will enjoy them.

How are you seeing sawdust? They are one towels. They have fresh grass all year long.

The pictures werent large on my screen, from a small picture it looks like a sand bedding, Hence why i was asking.
On my laptop now, can see they are towels.
As for grass / hay thing, 99% of all cavy owners, wether it be pet or breeding/showing will say hay is a must! over their dry food which isnt natural either...

It might be the Timothy hay you're trying. I give mine Oxbow, which is really fresh. Unfortunately, I had to pick up some KayTee brand this week until I can get more Oxbow. When it's the really good stuff, it's like crack to piggies.
