Dear all My three year old female piggy has had an ongoing salivery gland abcess for one year now.She has had 6 removals and withing a month it is back again..she has been on a number of antibiotics and still she has it.We saw 6 vets before it was finally Diagnosed as a salivery gland abcess by our vet mark at trinity vets in Maidstone. We went to lots of vets before who said it was just a normal abcess and drained it but intact it is quite rare apparently.Im wondering if anyone has had any kind of jaw abcess experience and could recommend anything more to me ?I have spent over 1000 pounds now and as she is fit and well otherwise I will try to do my upmost as she is one of my rescue piggies:) the abcess does not seem to bother her until it is very big and then we go back to the vet and the process starts again..she eats very well indeed and is otherwise doing ok:)
I would appreciate any body's experiences Many thanks Sarah

Im sorry to hear about your pig. I myself rescued a sow a beautiful white himi marked sow, she was prone to abcess's and at first they were just on her body, they gradually moved and she got one in her neck area, she had this removed and after 6 months of them coming back and treating i decided the best thing for her was to be PTS. She wasnt living the quality of life she deserved.
She was a fighter at the start and done brilliant, but the vet visits, the lancing and the removing of the absess became too much.
You have to think about the pigs quality of life, Every lance and removal is very painful.
How old is the pig in question?
Its not an easy decision to make, but if shes fighting then carry on but im afraid you may be fighting the inevatable.
