The best clippers to use for pigs nails are the human clippers you get, I have 3 diff sizes, one for pups, one for front nails and a pair for back nails (as they are generally alot thicker) As for holding them, they dont generally like being on their back and it can be awkward clipping nails with them on your lap. If im doing my routine nail clip, someone holds the pig as below The bottom is supported and feet held lightly so he cant pull away (non of mine pull away as they are used to it, but just incase) and the front feet also held, Hold the pig close so he cant wriggle away. Also note the position of the thumb, this is just incase you have a nibbler, you can push their head up with the thumb If im clipping myself i will hold the pigs in the same position except with one hand and will clip their back feet quickly or sit them on my lap, again my pigs are all used to this so dont squirm. Then they get to stand on my lap or the grooming table so i can get their front feet. Practice makes perfect! Dont give up!!! Kayleigh

Kayleigh Great Thread The Picture is a Bonus.
The Practice Makes Perfect ! statement can not be stressed enough. I like to start holding " The Little Ones " in the fashion pictured above at a early age. In this way, they are already used to this position and it is a lot easier to Trim Nails when they are relaxed.

On an unrelated note, how long does it take for a piggie to be full-grown? I can tell my two are aways away from their largest size, when compared to your picture, but wasn't sure what age they are fully mature. Thanks!

All breeds of guinea pig will be different size wise, also depends on what they are fed ect. But by about 2 years old i would say is the size your guinea pig will be for the remaining years.
