hello peeps, i've been putting this dow to a shift in hormones but my very pregnant piggie shandy seem to suddenly start over grooming when she is getting close to littering.
last time she was in the shed and literally balded all down one side overnight. this litter i have brought her inside so i can keep a closer eye on her and shes not bald but had nibbled 2 holes one on either side pretty much where the piglets stop and she starts... if you can picture a very largely pregnant piggy.
i have looked as she is good and will let me no sign of mites, or mange skin is fine not sore just got 2 nibble holes in her fur about an inch across. has anyone else experienced a self barbering pig only when pregnant as she has not done this before or after having her broods only when she gets to the too fat to move much stage.
thanks peeps Derralou

Its fairly common for sows to loose hair or overgroom dirong pregnancy. Its an inbalance of hormones which causes it. It should all grow back in once she has littered. Just make sure shes warm and comfortable.

yeah thats what im putting it down to looked this morning and she has enlarged the nibble holes and has 2 bite marks on her side. i know its her as she is on her own. she has had a parted pelvis for 5 days now so im hoping its any day... moved her onto a nice soft fleece this morning and she seems alot more comfy, does keep having "false starts" where i think oh this is it here she goes and then lays back down again. can't wait to see her lovely little babes and think she will stop soon as she pops. cant help flapping like a mother hen, im the same with all the sows
thanks again
