I noticed today that Terra is having trouble eating. Hes hungry but not able to eat his pellets or hay. I managed to get 1/2 cc of pellet mixture in him tonight but he's not taking any thing else from the syringe. What should I do?

Have you checked his teeth? Also check for lumps or bumps in and around the mouth/neck area as best as you can.
Offer some finely chopped veggies and see of that encourages him. When pigs stop eating its a bad sign as im sure you already know.
Vets may be your best bet if he doesnt eat something soon.
Is he still passing faeces?

PS Vet checked his teeth said they were good. I checked his mouth and face and throat as best I could and he seems fine.

I'm glad he's picking up. Keep monitoring him, though. Is he definitely pooping?

no impaction. I checked this evening and poop production is down again. I syringe fed him 2.5 ml of pellet mixture followed by 2.5ml of applesauce baby food (for vit C) The baby food has no artificial colors sweeteners flavors etc... I hope his eating will pick up again soon. Need good thoughts and prayers.

How much should he take at a feeding? He's taking 2.5 to 3 ml is that enough?

How often are you feeding? have you tried mushing up some pellets with warm water and putting that in the cage, he may try to eat that himself. Its very odd for a URI to cause this much upset in one pig.
What are his symptoms now?

When Hilda was bring syringe fed, at the start she was bring fed every 3 hours and she was taking about 3ml of pellet paste and 2ml of water at a go.
By the end she was taking 15ml pellet paste and about 5ml every 4 hours and every second feed she'd take a few mls of pureed red peppers.

His URI is practically gone but his leg is still very tender and he has a hard time putting it on the edge of the bowl to get his pellets. He tries to bite you when you touch it.

I figured out why he is not eating. It's not the URI it is his leg. It is still pretty painful obviously that's why he is having trouble eating he cant rest his paw on the bowl. I am going to the vet tomorrow for her to have another look at it.

I had thought a uri shouldnt cause this amount of eating problems if its been treated.
Has his leg been xrayed? Sorry i cant remember from previous posts. How did he get the injury?
Defo a good idea getting the vet to have a look again as if hes not eating then hes in some serious pain.
Let us know how he gets on.

The leg was x rayed and he said nothing was broken but it was an emergency vet who really didnt see guinea pigs. I took him in today to his regular vet and we are going to give it another week to see if it clears up on its own. I picked up some more pain meds today so he wont be in pain. We are going to x ray it again if he shows no improvement.

Hopefully the pain meds will help him want to eat more, which will help in the long run. C'mon Terra!
