Hi one of my guinea pigs (male) Junior is 1 yr old, 4 weeks ago he had surgery at the vets to drain an abscess he had on his face caused by a bite from his cagemate, everything went great his wound cleared up and the vet was over the moon by his excellent progress and recovery. He was giving a course of baytril and a tube of activon manaka honey that i had to apply to the wound once daily, but i noticed that once his antibiotics was finished he start to squeal a little when he was peeing and it was a orange/pinky colour, so i took him back to the vets and he examined his and says he doesnt think its bladder stones, and he could just be a bit run down after his operation so he put him back on another 10 day course of baytril and told me to give this twice a day and phone him back in 5-7 days to give him an update. If Junior wasnt any better he would get a urine sample from him but he says it doesnt seem anything to worry about, could the vet be right or am i just being paranoid? Jackie

Jackie, most of the time the vet is right. But you never know. Like a pregnant pig, they never know if she is pregnant but they observe and give their best guess. The best thing to do is to observe Junior and make sure he's alright. Just trust your vet.
Is your vet a small animals vet?

Yes. If your vet is specialized to small animals, they know what they're doing.
Keep us posted!!

It could be a uti. Is there a strong smell to his urine?
Give him some cranberry juice on his cage just to see if this helps.
Vets are usually correct but they like everyone learn new things. Iv taught my cavy savvy vet a few things over the years. And if im ever unsure i always ask my cavy friends their opinions too.
