Hello,
My guinea pig is doing a strange noise. Every time he breathes in he has a blocked nose sound (he snorts inwards, pardon the expression). He is eating and drinking normally, and he is as lively as ever. He has a slightly runny nose (white liquid around the left nostril). Should I separate him from my other piggie?
Could anyone tell me what it is?? I did a bit of research and I found the options to be pneumonia or URI......
Should I take him to the vets???

Yes, definitely bring him to the vet. It sounds like he's going to need a course of baytril or other antibiotic to clear that up.

Thank you, I am going to try to make an appointment as soon as possible... Could you tell me, what do you think it is?

It's probably a URI or some sort of little chest infection. Hopefully by getting him to the vet and on medication it'll clear up in no time. Personally, I wouldn't separate him just yet. I know a lot of people probably disagree with that, but I would wait at least till he gets to the vet and then ask your vet what he thinks. The reason is that I wouldn't want to stress him out while he's poorly and being away from his friends will upset him. Once he's being treated you can separate him then if your vet thinks it's necessary.

Yes sounds like a URI of some kind. I would remove from other pigs too, it is contagious.

I had moved the appointment to today and I went this morning, the vet said that it is an infection in the breathing system (would that count as a URI, she said it all in french because I live in France). He is now on antibiotics for 5 days and I have had to separate them and disinfect everything. Hopefully he will get better soon. I was really worried because my other guinea pig, Bubbles, died with similar symptoms but I just assumed it was a cold then....

Its probably a URI my piggie just got over one. If it's treated he should be ok.
