So, Brushing Freya today, and she has lots of little tiny black/brown bits in her fur. I have noticed it before and always assumed it was dirt or bits of hay or something because it wasn't a lot and also she doesn't groom herself very often, never has. Today there were lots though, and they only had a bath recently, and the more I brushed the more of these tiny specs came out.
She isn't itchy, there is no hair loss, they are irregular shaped, they don't look like eggs (even under a magnifying glass) she is not under the weather, she doesn't seem to be phased by it in the slightest. Chii doesn't have them its just her...
is she just dirty? or ... what is it! I am at a loss. There are no other symptoms whatsoever except these little tiny specks that don't seem to be clinging to her fur or anything they just come out when brushed, it is mostly around her back end which sounds like static lice, but I have never seen them in person and it doesn't look at all like the picture on the peter gurney website. More like black/brown flecks of skin... or dirt.. or something and nothing is moving.

she is a pet, short furred and her colouring is most like a dalmatian type her back end is black as is her skin. I am pretty sure its not mites, no bald patches and I have had very good look numerous times much to freya's dismay! the fur is not coming out or anything, they have had mites before and they were itchy and had a couple of little patches, but this is nothing like that.
I am going to treat her with ivec just to be doubly sure, but like I say, there are no signs as far as I am aware, and I am with them all day.

Try giving her a bath to wash her coat through.and treating with ivermectin. Small black flecks in the coat is usually the first sigh of mites. Very mild but a common sign. The small black flecks could be mite faeces.
