I have just been to the vet with Beth to get her some baytril as she has cystitis again. I kept telling them that last time they didn't give me enough and I had to come back but they still only gave me enough to give her 0.25ml per day (recommended amount is 0.7ml) I will end up back there again when this runs out I kept saying it wasn't enough and I did know a bit about it because Cambridge Cavy Trust recommends 0.7ml and to also give probiotics but they still gave me 0.25ml and not a probiotic in sight. Good job I have my own Oh how I wish I could get my hands on some baytril without having to go to the vet but allas it's a prescription only drug I might just have to ring up and say I accidently spilt it so I can get some more

Maybe have you tried a different vet? I have sulfatrim and I gave 0.5 ml twice a day for 10 days and I still have over 3/4 of the bottle left.

No they are all the same here they never seem to give enough. They are very stingy. If they give you a course here you have to use the whole course didn't they tell you that? Dawn

no. The sulfatrim I got is shelf stable. I will be giving Asia another 3 days dose or so as she has a light UTI. I'll be right back.

I think maybe you should change your vets as mine gave me lots more Baytril than I required for Ranger, but maybe they knew how inexperienced I am at giving medicine to piggies. But saying that they didn't offer any probotics either

What are probotics? I gave Asia her first dose at the vets and they said that I did it perfectly but they still gave me 1oz. At first that's why I thought I was given so much but apparently not.

Well you use probiotics to counteract the effects of the baytril. Antibiotics kill the bacteria that causes infection but it also kills some of the good bacteria too so you need probiotics to help build their immune system back up.

Some vets think the know everything, and there is no way they could be wrong. It's dumb. Try getting a different vet.

Our vet's locum even gave us extra tablets for Hildie when she was chesty. She said she'd give them to us because she knows it's tricky to give meds to piggies so it was just in case. Can't believe your vet is being like that. Surely they know you're a responsible piggy-owner?
