Just wanted to try to get some quick advice here before shuffling off to the vet. Our skinny pig is heavily pregnant and due any day. Noticed when I got home that she is bleeding. It isn't a huge amount, but it is definitely enough for me to notice. We've got the vet on standby.
I've never seen my pregnant pigs bleed before birth, but I wanted to ask if this does occur. The pups are still active and the sow is active, eating, etc.
Thanks!

Scarlet is doing well. She does have a tiny bit of bleeding, but after an inspection and an ultrasound (ugh, I felt so bad for her!), the vet believes everything is fine. He definitely said she is ready to go any day now (which we already knew), but he said that there was no need to worry unless she started bleeding fresh blood in excess (what she was discharging was dark and clotted). The ultrasound showed that there are two very healthy and large pups!
She is on an antibiotic to prevent any kind of infection from the discharge (as it can be bacteria central). Bless her little heart, she was so happy to get home and get her veggies.
We will keep you posted on her progress!

Its perfectly common for sows to bleed later in pregnancy. It happens to most sows and not many notice.
Usually a sign shes going to deliver in the next 24/48hours.
Glad shes ok.

Thanks for that, Kayleigh. I thought that might be the case, but I had never read anything online about it. The bleeding has stopped and her pelvic bones are opening up again, so I expect it should be soon!
Thanks for the concern!
