Scarlett had her pups tonight around 9 PM. The first pup was stuck in the birth canal and I had to help deliver. He took two gasps and died. She delivered three more pups with little difficulty, but I had to help remove the sac from each. We have two sows and one boar, all red and white. The poor pup that died was the only black and white. So far, everything is doing well. The pups are tiny (as all skinny pigs are when they're born). I am hoping that Mum takes more interest in the pups, but I am sure she is just recuperating after the difficult birth. I will keep you updated!

Congrats on the new babies and so sorry you lost one. I had never even heard of skinny pigs before joining here a couple weeks ago. I hope all goes well. We're patiently waiting for our's to arrive in a few weeks!

Congratulations. They look lovely. Sometimes after a stressful birth the sow freaks out. I hope her mothering instinct kicks in. Is this her first litter?

Well, unfortunately we lost two last night. This was the sow's first litter, and unfortunately, I think she was in too much shock after the difficult birth for her mothering instinct to kick in. The surviving sow is doing well so far. We're handrearing in hopes that she'll get strong enough to chase after Mum and demand food (but we know even then that the sow's instinct may not come in).
We have another pregnant sow that will deliver soon, and we may be able to foster the wee sow out.
