I'm new to the forum. Sadly I'm not here for good news. I had 2 very sweet piggies that passed away today. We had taken in a dog that needed help. We had our pigs in their own room with the door closed. This new dog had been very gentle and showed very little interest in the pigs. But as I was working on a lid he got into the room and within minutes they were both dead.
It was horrible. I couldn't believe how stupid I was. I was trying to help an animal in need and I put my sweet pigs in danger.
I know we have all read the cautionary tales of dogs and guinea pigs, but I never thought it would happen to us.
Sorry to start out as such a downer, but I needed other cavy people. My DH doesn't really get how much guilt I feel. I rescued these pigs, I took them out everyday to graze in the grass. I sent hours and hours making fleece pads, sleeping bags, hide outs... They were so trusting and happy. Then it all changed in a split second:(

I'm so sorry to hear about your piggies. Please don't beat yourself up over it. You have a big heart giving your cavies such a wonderful home and trying to help a dog in need out. Thinking of you

Sadly this happens, dogs, cats or even foxes. We try our best to protect our pets.
My dog hs been around pigs since he was tiny but i would never leave them unsupervised. He could squish them accidently.
Dont beat yourself up, take it as a lesson learnt.
Rip piggies.
