Hi, I just got two female cavies, Ginger Snap and Oreo. I am excited to add them to my animal family. I also have chinchillas and two chihuahuas. Can't wait to get out to the store tomorrow to get them some great fruits and veggies. Thank you all for the great info here. It was very helpful.

Hello,
We inherited our two guinea pigs, Rascal and Snuggles, after they nearly died of starvation from lack of care by a kindergarten family (who had them over the summer). I'm personally not a fan of small animals and children and pets in kindergartens - too many random elements. Anyway, the good news is they have retired comfortably in our home, with lots of comfort and yummy food. We've had them for a year and they are in the twilight of their lives. The bad news is, just this weekend past I found that Rascal has a tumor that has broken the surface. We anticipated this time would come (that maybe one of them would pass away overnight) but it happens to be a tumor. Well, we have taken lots of pictures this weekend and I'll post those soon, but this Thursday (4th October) Rascal will be put to sleep : (
I'll ask some questions about this process in the health forum, because I have some concerns about how to best do this. I've never had guinea pigs before and I've loved having them (we also have two rabbits and a cat). I will be a sobbing mess come Thursday.
