Our girl Beadie has always been a tiny piggy. She's a rescue who was never properly fed before we got her, and while she gets fed a tonne now, her weight has never gotten as high as the other pigs (even her cagemates who were in the same situation as her). The last few months have seen her weight slowly drop, and she's now barely hitting 800g on the scales which, for a 3.5 year old pig, seems pretty low.
She's in great form and the symptoms of her ovarian cysts seem to have abated, and her fur is growing back really nicely, but I can't help but wonder is that part of the cause of her weight loss. Anyway, I decided I'd bring her to the vet this afternoon for a quick check up. I'll keep ye informed!

How much was she weighing in at before? 800g is small for her age, but she could just be petite.
Gradual weightloss isnt good though, but try all the usual things, worming, mite, etc and i tend to feed oats, readi grass and corn to bulk pigs out.
Let us know what the vet says.

My girl piglet sounds very similar. She has always been petite, when at her biggest she was around 900g. Now she is over 6 and a half her weight has been gradually going down. She is now around 760g. I took her to vet and had her teeth checked etc but they were fine. The vet said its just her old age. She is pretty active and has a great appetite. She also had ovarian cysts about a year ago and recovered well from the op despite her age! Good luck with your girl. Fingers crossed!

Her highest ever weight was over 900g (can't remember exactly, I haven't the piggy journal in front of me), but she's down 40g since her last weigh in. Not too drastic, I know, but she's been getting smaller and smaller over time.
So, the vet had a good look at her and he says that yes, she is pretty small and he wouldn't like to see her lose much more, but she's not emaciated and is otherwise healthy. He also says that her ovarian cyst has gotten a little smaller and so may not be affecting her hormones so much and that's why her fur has grown back.
So, I guess I'll just have to monitor her. We already give those three girls extra pellets but I might throw a few oats in to see if that'll chubby her up. Fingers crossed!
Her cage mates were also examined and Snoop has a fungal nail infection but it's not annoying her so we aren't going to treat it.
Kima, unfortunately, seems to have developed some tumours around her ovaries. She had cysts before as well so it's either that or the cysts have become dermoid and there are things growing inside like hair or teeth! Either way, the operation is too major and it's not likely she'd survive, so we're going to pamper and spoil her for as long as we have her. It could be three years, it could be six months, but so long as she's happy that's the main thing.

I hope you are able to put some weight on Beadie. I hope the others remain healthy also. Let us know how they all are doing.

Beadie is down to 760g. I weighed her the other day. I'm a bit concerned but hoping it's a combination of age and her ovarian cysts. Saying that she's really not that old (around four years old) and her cysts seem to have stopped growing and aren't interfering with her hormones anymore.
She's ALWAYS eating though! Every time I look at her she has her nose in the pellet bowl. She never stops. I put extra pellets in so they never run out (I used to limit the pigs in that cage to 40g per day because they were chubby, but since Beadie and Snoop moved in I've kept the bowls topped up) but she's bottomless!
Any ideas? I don't mind that she eats so much, I just don't like that she's eating all the time but still dropping the weight.

Have you tried worming her? Just a thought before a possible vet trip. Ivermec, worm and keep an eye in weight for 14 days odd. Try feeding beetroot, corn, oats and plenty of hay....this should put the weight on.

I was thinking about that. What can I give her to worm her? Is it just ivomec or is there something else?
She gets a fair amount of corn, so I must keep an eye out for beetroot. Can she have rolled oats or do they have to be the livestock version?

Yup rolled oats is fine. I use rolled or bruised. As for wormer i just use the panacur for rabbits. Im sure you can get a g pig version but i didnt consult vet i got mine from pah
Definately worth a shot though.

I think I'd have to ask the vet for that. We don't have P@H here and as far as I can see Panacur is a VPOM here >_< I'll start her with bulking up her food anyway and see how that goes for her.

I have just bought some panacur rabbit wormer to give piglet ( my thin sow) but i am unsure what dosage to give her? Any ideas? I figured it was worth a shot. She eats like a horse and i am giving her readi grass in her pellets and she gets bran too. She is constantly eating but is just getting smaller and smaller!

Yeah, we haven't got it here. I've been to the one in Derry a few times when visiting family members up North but it's a good distance away. I must check if I can get it online without a prescription.
Beadie has been milling into the oats. All her cage mates too. She loves it! She gets all excited when I add more to the bowls. Fingers crossed she'll bulk up a bit (and her friends won't bulk up too much!)

Beadie is still losing weight. She's down to 650g now. She's eating all the time but there doesn't seem to be anything we can do for her.
This evening her eyes seem quite dull and she's a bit quiet. I have a funny feeling that it's her time. She's not in pain and she's eating treats if we offer them, so I'm going to see how she is in the morning. It might be time to put her to sleep.
