hello everyone! i am gettin my first gpigs tomorrow afternoon. i have been doing all my research and found someone only a town over who is wanting to rehome two. The male is tri-colored and short haired. The female is black and white and a puruvian long haired.
and of course i was searching for some that were close to me and not a 2+ hour drive.... so those two gpigs came up and now someone wants to give me 2 (also m, f but i dont know breeds yet) *and* someone wants to trade me four females (dont know breeds yet) for two girl rabbits i have. hahaha so i will be learning fast with them.
as for me... i live on a farm and love it. i'm a farm girl and love my animals. i have 2 milk goats (babies due in march *fingers crossed*) and 12 rabbits (i'm downsizing lol). and of course soon to be lots of gpigs hahaha. i have lots of experience with animals and am a fast learner so i have high hopes for my gpigs and that i will do well with them.
as for my gpigs... i have 44 grids (like c&c cage grids) that i am makin their pen out of. i am quite excited just to put it together lol.
hope y'all are ready to be overloaded with pics once i get setup (:

Welcome, it sounds like you are going to hit the ground running with your guinea pigs. They are very addictive. I bought one each for my girls and a few months later we have over 20!!!!

Welcome to the forum.
Is the boar neutered? Or is this pair living togeather and the sow inpig? (if so be careful with moving her, the stress could cause her to reabsorb or abort the pups if futher along)
Welcome again

thanks the two i am gettin today have never been put together. at least thats what the person told me. the other pair i'm talkin to the other person about, the female has had pups before. glad for that because i know with other animals at least that buying a critter thats already got momma experince is usually worth what you might pay for it. and neither boars are nuetered. i am goin to have them in their own pens because i know grown male pigs usually fight when introduced. though if i start breeding then i want to have two pens for females, like each of the boars harem *wink* hahaha. and then their "bachelor pad" for when the females are preggo. :/ friend said they had like 300 zip ties they could give me but they couldnt find them. so today i'm gettin zip ties and setting up before pickin up the gpigs this afternoon (:

You won't regret the zip ties! They help keep the cage stable. They make a huge difference!
As for introducing adult boars, if they have compatible personalities then it can work out well. Some boars don't like to live with other boys and some love the company. It's hard to predict!

my ride ditched me so have to set up another day to get the gpigs... my dad is having a total hissy about me getting the gpigs. would you set up with shavings or fleece on a cement floor? btw i'm gettin my room moved to the basement. so its definitely not in anyones way and no one goes down there except me anyways. the floor is still 1/3 dirt and 2 of 4 walls are sandstone block like from way back. so its not exactly the ritz! just wondering if anyone would or not. i was going to put tarp underneath the bedding and fleece but found out today that my dad had used my tarp so of course its now trashed Dx any cheap ways to floor the bottom of a c&c type cage??? thanks!

If the pigs are living on the ground, then shavings is perfectly ok, easy to clean up, absorbent and not too much work. I would however put something down if the floor isnt solid, like a tarpaulin or piece of old lino. Depending on the size of the cage you could use plywood or something.
Fleece is a lovely bedding, but takes a little pre preparation prior to using it. And some people cant get to grips with a routine and prefer shavings or another loose bedding.
Aslong as the pigs are kept in a draft free, damp free area they will be happy enough. Also ensure theres ventilation, (an open window)

well what i'm gonna do is get some plastic sheeting to put on the floor, cover that in cardboard, and put the shavings/fleece on top of that.
hoping i can get the gpigs tomorrow.

so... obi (the boar) is walking back and forth (rather looks like frustrated pacing to me) and he is doing this grunty-purr sort of noise.... mayra (the sow) is hiding in her lil house but will come out when he starts makin noise again, and she will walk back and forth with him only she puts her butt up to the grid-wall seperating them and makes what seems to be happy wheeking noises...
i might be a guinea pig newbie but i'm a farm girl and i've pretty much seen any animal breed before... so to me this raises red flags as a sort of show of them wanting to breed. am i correct?
i am hoping to at least get my other guinea pigs (on thursday, today is tuesday) because i want to make two breeding pens. because i want her bred with the peruvian boar i am gettin thursday. once i introduce the females i want to have together will it incite fighting to add the boar in? i havent read of this, its just something i randomly wondered.
thanks (:
