My lovely sow Sparkle gave birth a few minutes ago! I'm very relieved that she was able to deliver three pups on her own. I was very worried as her age and history were unknown to me. I stepped out to get some lunch and came back an hour later and she had already had them. Two were dried and chipper. Sadly, one was still born. She had cleaned the still born and had it virtually dry before she pushed it away. It was beautiful, but I could tell immediately that it was not savable. I did try though. It was fully formed, but about 3 times larger than the other two. While they were round and plump--this still born one seemed loose and baggy--like skin and bones. Although it was very large, it seemed dysmature. Like the other two, it was crested. Unlike the others--it was a lovely brown and orange brindle colored. The two living ones are black, white and orange. They are very cute. Mom didn't bleed much and she had already eaten all of the afterbirths...so I did a quick cage clean and left them alone to bond and rest. Mom Sparkle: and: Dad Midnight: and the little fireworks: and: Thank you all again for all of your help and encouragement. Now I hope Ginger has as much good fortune as Sparkle.

I hope everything goes well with your sow(s)!
Mostly I'm relieved that Sparkle seems healthy and well. I was really worried. Another forum had me terrified that her death was certain and that it would have been all my fault for not sexing them correctly...
An FYI: if Sparkle was impregnated on the day she was put in with Midnight--then the pregnancy went 72 days.

Theres a few forums about that are against breeding full stop and think that being blunt and rude is how to help or deter people from doing it. They believe all breeding is bad and that its dangerous etc....yet they fail to realise the breeding of any animal....guinea pig, dog, cat, human all carries risks...but breeding is natural.
Theres alot of innacurate info on these sites regarding breeding. All people like myself can do is continue to help those who ask either on this forum via my website or fb and share the correct information.
There will always be breeder bashers and anti breeders...but dont let them get you down.
Im glad your sow littered well keep us posted with the pups progress and of course sparkles.

Still nothing to report from Aunt Ginger. She's holding out on me!
Sparkle's babes seem to be doing well. Ginger has stolen one of them to cuddle with. One time it will be one baby, the next time it will be the other.
The babes weighed 93 and 103 grams about 20 hours after birth. I forgot to weigh them sooner. I'll keep a daily weight sheet on them to make sure both are growing. I wish I would have weighed the stillborn one, but I didn't think to do it. I know it must have gone 150+ grams.

Aw, congratulations! Sorry about the one born sleeping. That can happen when they're very large.
Seems like Ginger is broody for her own babies to arrive!

From day two to day three; the larger pup gained 1 gram. It went from 103 to 104 grams. The smaller pup lost 1 gram; going from 93 to 92. Is a small amount of loss normal? I did take the larger pup out for about an hour to let the smaller one nurse. Both seem vigorous and healthy.
I put the larger one into a small pet carrier and put it back into the cage; so it was with the group, but unable to nurse for a bit.
Both pups are nibbling on pellets and hay, but do not seem too interested in veggies just yet.
I thought Ginger was going to go yesterday, but she fooled me...

I wouldnt seperate them at all right now, not for long periods of time, they will all nurse when they need too. Its perfectly normal for pups to loose weight before gaining. It happens with them all.

Good to know! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise!
Today when I weighed them they went from 93g to 100g for the smaller one and 104 to 110 for the larger. I think that's a good amount of overnight growth.
Still no pups for Ginger. I wonder how much longer she's got....
