Hello!
I am new the the whole guinea pig world, having just recently got my first pair in October of 2012. Previously I had had two hamsters, both of whom died shortly after a year of having them (which had I realized at the time that was normal, I wouldn't have gotten hamsters!)
So I decided to give guinea pigs a try, and so far I'm loving them! I got two, an all white one named Daisy, and a red/white one named Cleo. They first started out in one of those small, pet store cages, but recently upgraded to a much larger cage, and they seem much happier. More room to run around, and also easier on me for clean up.
The only family member not too thrilled about these two would be my dog, who gets jealous if I have the piggies out to play with. She wants to stick her nose in their faces, and they are never too happy about it, so outside the dog ends up going. She's slowly adjusting better to them, however, but I think she secretly thinks they are a noisy treat for her (don't worry, they aren't!).
As this is my only my second time with an exotic pet which are so different from hamsters, every little thing they do that I think is "not normal" scares me, and off I run to the Internet to see what's up! Hopefully as time goes by I'll calm down, as I learn more of my girls' habits and mannerisms.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on getting your piggies! Yeah, hammies just don't last long enough. It's so sad It's normal to be nervous in the beginning, but you'll get used to their little noises and habits in no time. In the meantime, don't be shy! Ask as many questions as you need. We're happy to help!
