hi everyone, my name is Kay.Ive just rescued/adopted my lovely guinea pigs after first owning 3 many years ago when my daughter was 7yrs old. people joke that i must be broody, just have me time on my hands to devote loads of love and attention to my lovely girls. its a long story but a answered a advert for a loving home needed for two neglected girls,(the lady whom rescued them went to pick up a neutered male and found him with his sisters in a awful cage, she took them all)I'm so glad she did. they are about 7mths old and doing well now. my sister turned up with a 1yr old girl that her friend couldn't keep any more so now i have 3, they are in separate cages but chat to each other all the time.I don't want her being lonely and would appreciate advice on a new companion for her or trying to join them.My daughters at university and between use are trying to think of names for them. I looked at different forums and i must say this stands out way above the rest.hope to get to know you all. bye for now Kay

Hi Kay and welcome to the forum. If you've enough space to house the three together then you could always give that a go before getting a fourth piggy. There are a few threads you can read here. Basically, clean out the area you're going to house them in well so that it doesn't smell like any of the pigs (and they don't associate it with belonging to one of them). You can introduce them on neutral ground (like in a run) if you like, although some people prefer to just pop them into the clean cage and see how they get on. Give them lots of fresh veg and hay to distract them and put them all in at once. Watch them closely and have a towel at hand to throw on them if they start to fight (sticking your hand in between them could result in a nasty bite if they're being vicious towards each other). Give them an hour or so and see how they get on. Chasing and squealing and humping is normal and is just a sign that they're establishing who the boss is. If they get very rough and draw blood then separate them immediately - it's probably not going to work out. It really all depends on their personalities. Some pigs live in harmony with others and some just have a personality clash. Like people, I guess. But just because they don't get along with one pig doesn't mean they won't get along really well with another, it just depends on how they "gel".
