One of my piggies has a curled up toenail on one of the front paws. I cut his nails once every 2-3 weeks, and his other nails are fine. This is the "extra" nail on the side, and it's completely curled up and getting close to the foot. I tried cutting off a little more of it last week and of course cut the quick. Do I need to take him to the vet and maybe just have it removed or is there something else I can do?

Maybe try taking the tiniest sliver off every few days. That should force the quick back gradually.
Is it a dark coloured nail or clear? If it's dark it's a little tricky, but try taking the smallest bit you can.
It's funny that just this one nail is growing differently. Is it thickened or anything?

Extra toes like this tend to grow inwards. It would be best to seek vet advice and get the toe removed. Should be a quick simple pain free thing.

One of my boys seems to have a problem with this, I need to get a better look, I have never cut piggy nails before and am a bit nervous of doing this... I will try to get a photo and post to get your thoughts

It's a black nail (of course!). He has 3 black paws and one white. I decided to take him to the vet, but they told me unless it's already ingrown, it's not needed to see a vet (it's $75 charge). So 2 techs came out to look at the nail, and the way they explained it, the nail wasn't too long and has a ways to go before it actually reaches the pad. They also said it was already as short as could be, but just naturally curls up like that. Basically I have to watch it and cut regularly.
