Hi everyone, my name is Megan. My husband and I have been talking about it for a while and finally decided to get my son a guinea pig like he has been asking for. Of course we knew that the care would mainly be on our shoulder and any time spent with the new addition had to be monitored. This is not my first go around with one of these little cuties. I had two, for years growing up. They were wonderful then, but I have forgotten a lot of their care, like, dislikes, and general info about them. We want to make sure this little one has a wonderful life with us and a refresher on everything is much needed for me. We are very happy to go above and beyond for this guy (as we do for all our pets). Since he did come from petsmart I don't know how old he is. We knew he wouldn't have been handled much at all and will give him all the time he needs getting use to any sort of interaction. Any advise on this is greatly appreciated. Now to meet the little guy himself "Pudding". My three year old son picked the name. He's been trying to name him little brother (who has another three months till he enters the world) this name I think it was better suited for the one with fur

Awwww he is very sweet looking! From what I understand and I'm new to guinea pigs so I could be wrong but they are herd animals and do better when they have a friend. That way they aren't lonely when you aren't there. This is why we adopted two bonded females which was the best decision we could have made. They get along great most of the time and I'm sure if we had just one it wouldn't be as happy as our two girls are.

Thank you for the advice. Funny you mentioned it because we just said something last night about going back to get another. I will mention it to my hubby and see what he says.

Welcome to the forum. Pudding is beautiful, very sweet! If you're getting a friend for him, double check that he really is a "him" because sometimes petshops aren't the best at getting the genders right

Welcome.
I love the name pudding. Very fitting. Pigs do well in pairs but can be equally happy alone. Ensure he is indeed a he and any future pals are male too.
Best of luck and i hope you enjoy being a piggie parent.

What a cutie! I agree with what the others said. Check the gender (there are good pictures available online, just google "sexing guinea pigs"), and if you have a cage big enough for 2, get him a (male) buddy. Guinea pigs are social animals, and you will love watching them interact. Enjoy!
