Hello
In the last week or two I've noticed that two of my girl pigs have got what i can best describe as a double chin! As in the skin under their chins/their necks are very fluffy/saggy They dont appear to have anything else wrong im just wondering if this is just part of them getting older or if they have a problem under their skin?
Thankyou for any help:)

Many of my older piggies have this; it is kind of like a double chin right? And it is all soft and squishy and kind of fun to touch LOL! Well I like touching it at least and they find it soothing when I do pfft! I have never heard of it being bad or any problems though I may be wrong and then I'll have to start worrying about it but I think it may be where they get a little too chunky and then get a double chin? No matter what I think it is so cute and I just like stroking it, it is always really soft too! Haha Oh no I am in the mood to give their chin a rub hahah! Thank you elisabeth! Pfft!
As long as there is no lumps of odd liquid feeling in it I am sure it is fine but maybe someone else might know more all I know is my oldies have it and they have never seemed to have a problem and I stroke their chins all the time and they have always loved it.

I agree...they seem to get little wobbly chins as they get older! Infact when they get really old everything sometimes goes south. All belly and no back i call it Middle age spread! Lol!

I would keep an eye on it. Because I thought Sookie was getting a double chin and it turned out to be an abscess. It began looking fluffier than usual and then grew bigger.

LOL! yes tatiepot XD Bellies and everything go south but they are just so squiggy you can't help but love it if only that was the case for humans. But yes keep an eye on it like I said if there is any lumps or liquid you can feel it may be something different but if it feels like just loose skin and soft to the touch it is probably just as "Tatiepot" said "The middle age spread" pfft! But have a check all around the piggie you may be surprised that other bits may be getting a little droopy too; if that is the case then I doubt there is anything wrong just mid age kicking in. If only us ladies could be called cute when things turn south then we would have one less thing to worry about pfft!

It's probably just a double chin. Most of my pigs have it even if they're otherwise slim. I wouldn't worry about it.
As shewolfsilver said, do monitor it in case there's an abscess or cyst in there. One of my girls had a few abscesses in her neck and they were hard to see because of her long fluffy fur and because of where they were.

Thankyou! Thats a relief. I will keep an eye on them, I was concerned because it had never happened with any of the other pigs i'd had at their age. and also it only appears to have happened to the girls whereas my male pig who doesnt live with them doesnt have one (yet anyway!) So i was just a bit worried it could have been some bug that had got into their run or something. Anyway, thanks for the help

Hi again, yesterday I noticed the pig with the saggiest neck has scratched part of the fur off it but i cannot see any bugs and the skin does not look sore. Is there likely to be anything wrong??

Hmm...It is hard because it could be anything, best thing is to rule out lice/mites so have you treated for both recently? I'd say treat for both and see if the scratching continues. Also have a feel around the "Saggy" neck and see if you can feel anything or if the Guinea shows any distress towards you touch/pushing on it.
Let us know how you get on and if you can snap a picture of it, it may help us see exactly what you are saying.

Have a feel and see if you feel anything out of the ordinary. If there's hairloss then her friends could be barbering her a bit.
There'd be no harm in treating for mites, just in case.

I will treat them for mites today. She doesnt show any more distress than normal, i've never known any of my guineas to like being touched around their neck so i cant be sure if its different to normal. The neck area is obviously larger than the other pig in with her (her mum) and it does feel kind of spongy but again, im not sure if thats just normal fat or anything to be worried about. I will try to get a photo at some point. Thanks for the help again

Yes maybe when we see a photo it might be apparent what it is other wise treating her for mites/lice shouldn't hurt.

Unfortunately today this pig, Bessie, had a very sudden prolapse that could not be fixed and had to be put to sleep by the vet. Im not sure if these things are related by anything other than her just getting old? But thank you for all your help.
