We got our piggies on 4/14, they were pretty small, I wanna say they were probably 3-4 weeks old with Hazel being the slightly older one because she was bigger- I finally got a scale and started tracking their weight Mid-May. The last couple of times we've weighed them Hazel's weight gain has slowed and Acorn (our male) has continued at about the same pace. My question is, at what age does their weight gain begin to slow down? Should I be concerned about Hazel? Here's their weight gain records: 5/16 -H 14.7oz (416.74g) A 13.9 oz (394.06g) 5/17 -H 14.8oz (419.57g) A 14.0 oz (396.89g) 5/23 -H 16.0oz (453.59g A 15.4oz (436.58g) 5/26 -H 16.4oz (464.93g) A 15.7oz (445.09g) 5/28 -H 17.4oz (493.28g) A 16.4oz (464.93g) 6/04 -H 18.1oz (513.13g) A 17.9oz (507.46g) 6/09 -H 19.5oz (552.82g) A 19.7oz (558.49g) 6/13 -H 19.9oz (564.16g) A 21.5oz (609.51g)

Well my boys tend to start to gain more weight about this time and some of my girls seem to slow down between the 500g-600g mark when I look at my records. It's hard to say though because each Guinea Pig is different and grows at a different rate, and of course eating habits change due to the weather, the food you are giving them and also the portion sizes. with that being said you need to take into account that maybe the portion sizes you fed that week could have been smaller or the food was different and maybe the male was eating more of it then her this week. It is very, very hard work to get a perfect weight chart as you would have to measure all their food put on record the food you have fed that day to match up to the other weeks when you fed the same kind of food, have your pigs separate to make sure they are eating the amount you have given them; And that sometimes it is just unrealistic to do all that as we do have other things that need doing etc. But with all that said i'm sure she is fine and just had a slow week weights fluctuate all the time and from what I can see she is at a healthy weight. I can give you an example of how crazy weights can be though. I have a girl who is 6 years old and all her life she has weighed between 500-600g Now that is small for an adult guinea pig I think, but she has had two litters and never had a problem with either of them and she was only 657g and 652g when she was in her very late stages of pregnancy (And gave birth to 4 in each litter so has had 8 piggies in all!) and her children are healthy beautiful and are at 800g + but she is still to date 525g And eats like a horse she is the first to eat and the last to finish lol! So really a lot is based on the guinea pig itself just like all humans are different and either find it hard to gain weight or easy to gain weight. I hope this puts your mind at ease a bit as it really does depend on the Guinea Pig and I'm sure we all have the common sense to know if something is wrong with our guinea pigs as we spend so much time with them. Just keep an eye on her make sure she doesn't drop weight and she should be fine! Keep us updated though it is so interesting to watch how each guinea pig grows.

thank you WiggyPiggys! That helps to put my mind at ease... she's eating okay and she's still acting like her normal crazy little self, so as long as the weight gain seems normal, then yay!
