Hi everyone! I'm Angelica and I'm from Melbourne Australia, I have a cockatoo and hopefully soon guinea pigs, I've started thinking about getting a guinea pig so I'm poking around the internet for any scrap of information I can find, but info is a bit all over the place so I joined here to see what guinea pig owners have to say. Any bits of information anyone has got to tell me would be greatly appreciated, I cant say I know much at the moment Hope to hear from you all soon!

Welcome Angelica! I'm sure once you have a looked around on the forum you will be able to pick up hundreds of different facts about Guineas care, foods, illnesses etc. It's hard to pinpoint one thing you should know but I will say where you can get a Guinea Pig can make all the difference. I don't know if it is the same in Australia but here in the UK I would always pick a rescue or a recognized breeder over a pet shop.
1) You are armed with the knowledge that a rescue will neuter their animals and so will not get any little ones popping up and also that a breeder knows how to correctly sex Guinea Pigs and will make sure they give you male+male Female+Female.
2) A good breeder will keep records etc so you will know what you have obtained from them.
3) Rescuing Guinea Pigs can be very rewarding.
Of course I don't know how it is in Australia and wherever you even have pet shops but I found from experience that the right place can change everything! So yes just a little advice from me but I'd say spend a few hours on here and find out more, trust me there is tons of amazing advice on here with people that have been caring for Guinea Pigs all their lives in one way or another!

Hi! I know everything can be overwhelming so the main thing to focus in on at first is the food. It is very important to know what to feed your little new addition. The next thing is your cage size and the type of bedding you want to use. You came to the right place to find all this out so good luck!
