Hi, I noticed just a bit ago that Bacon has a white spot in his eye and it looks a tiny bit cloudy. Could it be a hay poke maybe? If it is what do I do? I don't have the money right now for a vet visit and am hoping that I can treat it at home. Or is it one of those things that's just wait and see? Thanks so much in advance for any advice. Attachment DeletedThis is the eye that I am concerned about..... Attachment Deleted This is his other eye for comparisons sake. It looks normal to me.

It looks like a hay poke alright. They're common enough and the good news is that they usually heal up themselves without any issue. Just have a good check that there's no hay or debris trapped in his eyelids. If you like you can get a lubricant from the pharmacy to ease any discomfort (vidisic and lachrilube are the ones my vet uses - they're for people, so don't tell them in the pharmacy you want it for your guinea pig), but if there's no visible scrape on the surface of the eye then it's not essential. In a few days the eye should be good as new Just keep a close eye for signs of dryness or redness or any discharge, just in case.

Thank goodness. I couldn't see any hay or debris in his eyelids. Should I wash his eye out with saline solution just in case? I can't get vidisic or lachrilube without a prescription from a doctor (I'm in the states) Thank you for your advice

If yoi can try to get an antibacterial eye drop. We can get them from the supermarkets. Brolene is a good eye drop. Just to keep it clean.
It should heal up itself. Just keep an eye on kt.
